I firmly believe that the best learning takes place through an iteration between experiences and reflection on those experiences. Reflection can take place with help of conceptualization and abstract thinking. Experiential learning is crucial for students to learn how they can ‘contribute to sustainable solutions for existing and future complex issues in the sustainability transitions. Education is much more than knowledge transfer; we need to teach students to be intellectuals with an excellent knowledge-base, to take responsibility for their own learning processes, and to reflect on assumptions and biases, for examples in the models that academics produce and that are used in policy making. I aim to teach students how to be critical and reflective academics and build their capacity as engaged advisors, knowledge brokers, and mediators
